HOW I STARTED MY BOUDOIR BUSINESS: MARYLAND BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER

Hello, ladies and welcome to my blog! My name is Shelby and I am the owner of Boudoir by Capture Legacy! A few years ago, my husband and I started our photography business, Capture Legacy Photography & Cinematography, and we were mainly doing photos of families and just starting out with our wedding career. As our business grew, I kept seeing photos of women in lingerie in classy looks and poses on Pinterest and was so intrigued! I knew that this was something I wanted to do but didn’t know it actually had a name (embarrassing right?)!!

It wasn’t until about a year in to our new business that I finally had a conversation with a friend that changed my life! She and I were talking about ideas for Valentine’s Day and she mentioned seeing an ad on Groupon. She asked if I had ever heard of Boudoir Photography and when she showed me a picture, I said, “OH! That’s what it’s called!!”. I then asked her if she trusted me with doing my first shoot ever as well as hers, that I would love to do the photos for her and get some practice. She agreed (yayyy!!) and we had SO MUCH FUN.

From driving through Downtown Baltimore City, getting to a hotel we selected, doing the shoot, and editing the final product, we were both totally in love with the results. I hoped that she would love the photos as much as I did and little did I know that what came next was really the foundation for why I am so passionate about serving women this way.

It was incredible to see her comfort and confidence change right before my eyes during her session. As I kept shooting, I quickly realized that through empowering her, I too, was feeling empowered.

Fast forward to today, and I've done dozens of boudoir sessions with such incredible women! The thing I love most about boudoir is that ladies are able to see themselves in a way they never have before and that's an impact that cannot be measured. It changes their entire body image and self confidence. It encourages self love and appreciation where many of us ladies truly struggle. Boudoir has made me realize the true potential we have as photographers to change people's lives for the better, and so this amazing journey began!
